Why Spell Check Is Not Working on WhatsApp

Autocorrect used to fix words in the chat, and then it stopped. WhatsApp has no spell-check switch to reset. The correction is the keyboard that is typing.

Why Spell Check Is Not Working on WhatsApp

If you searched WhatsApp spell check not working, words you mistype stay mistyped. That used to be fixed as you typed. WhatsApp did not remove a spell checker from the chat.

Autocorrect lives in the keyboard. If that keyboard’s correction is off, or the chat is using a different keyboard than the one you changed, WhatsApp will look broken. We cannot reset it.

We are not WhatsApp Support.

Spell check stopped in the chat?

WhatsApp has no spell-check repair. Shmooz can rewrite a draft you paste. We cannot turn autocorrect back on.

Turning it on is a different page

Why it looks like WhatsApp failed

  • Autocorrection is off in the keyboard on screen. There is no WhatsApp row that overrides it.
  • You changed Samsung Keyboard, and the chat is using Gboard, or the other way around.
  • On iPhone, a third-party keyboard ignores Settings → General → Keyboard → Autocorrection.
  • A keyboard update reset the toggle. Updating WhatsApp does not put it back.

If the letters are fine and the sentence is wrong, paste the draft into Shmooz. That does not install spell check into WhatsApp. You send the message yourself.

FAQ

I turned autocorrect on and WhatsApp still does not fix words.

The chat is probably using a different keyboard than the one you changed. There is no second spell-check switch inside WhatsApp.

Can you repair spell check for me?

No. The control is on that phone. We do not publish a support number.

Are you WhatsApp?

No. An app that promises to patch spell check inside WhatsApp is not WhatsApp.
