Yes. When you play the voice note inside the open chat, the sender can usually tell it was played. That played mark is not the same thing as blue ticks on a text. Turning read receipts off stops blue ticks on messages. It does not promise that a voice note you played stays invisible.
Shmooz cannot hide that mark. We are not WhatsApp Support, and we do not sell a “secret listen” tool. Apps that claim they can listen for you without the sender knowing are a common way to get an account restricted.

What is actually different
- Played a voice note in the chat — the sender can usually see that you listened. Stay on this page.

- Play from the notification, without opening the chat — on some phones this does not mark the chat opened. Whether the sender still sees a play mark varies by phone and WhatsApp version. Test with your own second phone. See listen without opening it. Nobody can promise it always hides the play.
What not to install
There is no official button called “listen without the sender knowing.” A modified WhatsApp, a “voice note hider,” or a stranger’s support number will not add one. Those are ban risks, not features.
If you need the words
Once you have already played the note, the privacy question is over. If you need the words in text, forward a note you already have into a separate chat: transcribe a WhatsApp voice note. That does not rewind the played mark on the original chat.

If I turn off read receipts, can they still see that I listened?
They can still see a played voice note in many cases. Read receipts and voice-note play marks are not the same switch.
Can you turn the played mark off for me?
No. There is no remote switch, and we will not pretend to be WhatsApp.
Does replaying it notify them again?
The first play is what people notice. WhatsApp does not promise a second alert for every replay, and we will not invent one. The sender already knows you listened once you played it in the chat.
